German Programs throughout the USA
AATG has been working on a Data and Assessment project to gain a better understanding of German programs in the United States. We have been compiling information related to German programs at institutions offering all levels of German.
How will AATG use the information is collects?
- This data will be used to advocate and support German programs as a part of AATG's mission.
- Higher education and K-12 teachers can use this to identify feeder schools for your German program.
- Maps showing German programs can be used to network with other schools in your area
- We will gather information about all German programs to highlight various levels of German and find out where new German programs are needed.
How can you help? Please take a moment to see if your German program is included. You can search the map below for the name of the school, or by level (K-12 or higher education), and can use the plus/minus signs at the lower right to zoom in or out. Help us to refine the information -- if your program is not included, or updates are needed, please fill out the short form.
Become a member! If you are not a current member of AATG, consider joining. Your membership supports student scholarships, new instructor support programs, and securing funding for a variety of new programs to support German students, instructors, and programs at all levels.
Who can utilize this data? The data related to programs is currently only available to AATG members and only in aggregate. We are working on guidelines for data access and will publish it once the database has been checked for errors. Currently, no data downloads or unattributed data exports are permitted. Principle of indirect access and focus on limited report generation. We will produce reports based on specific criteria and justification by requesting parties. Information is mediated through the AATG office.

Custom reports involving comparison with new datasets may be available. They include special research parameters and may be based on a variety of criteria.
Requests for data should include the following:

Who is making the request (i.e. who will receive the data)

How is the person connected to AATG? Is this a research for hire project?

What is the timeline of the request. When is the data needed and when will the project be completed?

For what general purposes is the data request? (Is there a project that this is supporting. Is this expected to be an annual request?)

How, specifically, will the data be used (Will this involve outreach to individuals, schools, will the outreach be digital, physical, etc. Be as specific as possible so we can avoid overlap)

How frequent will the outreach be? Will this be for one time use, multiple uses (please estimate the # of uses) or for indefinite use.

Who will have access to the data? How /where will it be stored and who else has access?
